March 23rd, 2010 Web Hosting

Man public know the basics of buying a field name, and if you are reading this then you probably own a field or two of your own. While  the process of field buying may seem very simple, there are some hidden strategies that should not be overlooked.

After your field has been procured, there are measures that need to be full to control the uniqueness and power of your field name. Your field field is an online identity, and if that identity represents your online business, then you’ll want to do everything in your power to preclude competitors from committing “identity theft.” Simply conceiving and buying an original field will not accomplish this. Consider the following in rank to ensure the safety, authority and efficacy of your field name.

Conceiving a Field Name

The process of deciding which field name would be best for your business can be a hard one. Nonetheless, with a few tips you’ll be on the right footstep in no time. The best advice you can have is to come up with a name that is very original and memorable. If your field name is close to another field name, then some of your visitors may be drawn to the additional field inadvertently. Likewise, a field name that is hard to denote or remember will be easily forgotten, resulting in a loss of visitors.  Since your field name is a representation of your online brand, you’ll want to make sure it is something that you’ll be comfortable with for years to come.

Hold All Field Extensions for Your Field Name

Although it is right that .com domains are more well loved and more beneficial than any additional kind of field, this doesn’t mean you should completely forget in this area the additional extensions. When buying a field name it is a excellent thought to hold all of the extensions for your field name. This way your competitors can’t benefit from the popularity of your field name. So if your field name is “my-unprotected-field-name.com”, then you’ll want to hold “my-unprotected-field-name.net” etc. Of course, you may not feel the need to buy a .info or .gov extension for you field, and this is understandable. Though, at the very least you’ll need to hold the three major extensions; .com, .net, and .org.

Hold Domains with Close Alternate Spellings

Many public make small typing errors when entering the name of a field. Your competitors are aware of this fact, and many times they’ll buy field names that are close in spelling to yours, just to take advantage of this. To preclude this from experience you’ll want to buy any field names that are closely related to your field name. For example, if your field name is “commonly-misspelled-field.com”, then you’ll want to buy the field name “commonly-mispelled-field.com” as well. Notice the second field name only has one S in the word “misspelled.” Although this is an incorrect spelling, many of your visitors may make this mistake. To bring them to your site you’ll need to own this field, and then redirect the misspelled field to the original field.
