A pledge was approved by the Board of Directors of ICANN to look upon a proposition by special effective group, allowing the formation of support system for the new gTLDs of deserving applicants, only which are most likely to belong from developing countries. This committee further instructed the CEO and President in this area making a strategy in detail by December 8th, highlighting the scope and implementation of the suggestions.
The CEO and President, Rod Beckstrom, stated, “it is very vital that deserving applicants, such as those from emerging economies, be included in the new gTLD curriculum. It is necessary to encourage diverse participation in this new curriculum and to stretch the scope of our multi‑stakeholder model.”
The Board of Directors of ICANN left no doubt that it aims to boost company’s strategies regarding the ethics, conflict of interests, confidentiality and entire code of conduct.
ICANN Board Chair, Steve Crocker, stated, “we want to realize a Gold Standard in terms of conflicts and ethics practices. Specifically we are effective on a system which will lay out how Directors interested in specific new generic Top Level Field applications will be restricted from participation in the deliberations and decisions regarding the new gTLD Curriculum.”
A pledge was approved in 42nd annual general meeting closure, held in Dakar, Senegal, which said, “ICANN will treat decisions relating to approving any single new gTLD application in an ethical manner and with care to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest.”
The upcoming general meeting of ICANN will be held in San Jose, Costa Rica from Development 11 to 16.
