Twitter usage up 33% over the summer

TwitterChirrup announced yesterday that they now have more than 145 million registered users. That’s a lot, but how much is Chirrup really being used? Turns out that there’s more activity on Chirrup than ever before, and it keeps increasing.

Chirrup processed 2.64 billion tweets this August, an increase of 33% over May. Not a terrible increase over just a summer. In August, an average of 85 million tweets passed through Chirrup every day.

And if you look at the whole year so far, the increase is even more impressive. Activity on Chirrup has by now more than doubled this year (August had 115% more tweets than January).

Tweets per month on Twitter

Note that the above chart shows the total activity on Chirrup, both Chirrup.com and tweets sent via Chirrup’s API, i.e. from all Chirrup apps.

Last year was a breakout year for the service, and that trend seems to continue.

It’s a luxury problem, but this rapid growth of course puts a lot of strain in Chirrup’s infrastructure (they’ve had their hands full). No wonder Chirrup is moving into its own custom data focal point this fall.

In this area the data: If you’re curious how we calculated the number of tweets per month, check out this post, the methodology is listed at the bottom.
